By August of 2008, Tim and friends had sifted through the soot and cleaned up all the rubble and ash. Around the same time, Dick came up with a plan. He swiftly kicked us all into action and became the relentless driving force behind this wonderful and insane adventure that was the cabin rebuild, AKA Project Phoenix.

As detailed in the following pages, over the next several years we executed on Dick’s plan while at the same time adding our own personal touches and tweaks here and there, and we built an amazing cabin of our collective own.

As I summarize what transpired during the rebuild, for simplicity I’m going to be using the word “we” a lot. There were so many wonderful people involved in all of this. Although I was there for much of it, I definitely wasn’t there to see or participate in all the progress along the way. I don’t even know who exactly did a lot of the work that was completed when I wasn’t there, though I have collected quite a few pictures of the work that was was being done throughout.

So I’m mostly gonna stick to “we” for the narrative and trust that the pictures will fill out some of the finer details. Also, you know who you are :)

This is me, by the way, or at least it was shortly before the build began. I’ve grown up a bit over the years since then. You can call me Scott or Scotty.
